The Marilyn Monroe Collection
June 1, 1962: Marilyn Monroe’s final public appe June 1, 1962: Marilyn Monroe’s final public appearance at Dodger Stadium, where she made a plea for donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation in pre-game ceremonies. She wears a costume from her final film, “Something’s Got to Give.” Angels outfielder Albie Pearson escorted her to the pitcher’s mound (2nd and 3rd photos). Pearson later said, "When she took her life, or whatever happened, it really devastated me. I looked into her eyes and she looked so lonely. I remembered every Bible verse I ever learned while I was staring at her. She asked me, 'What? What is it you want to tell me?' I didn't want her to think I was some kind of a religious nut, so I held it in. It put my life on a different path from that day on. I saw past that woman's beauty. I saw a lonesome, searching person. Her sadness had a profound effect on me."

This was also Marilyn’s final birthday. She turned 36. Some say Marilyn spent her final birthday home alone. Documentation proves differently. The June 1, 1962 invoice from the Carey Cadillac Renting Company from Marilyn’s personal files, which is now part of my own collection, documents her every move that day (4th and 5th photos). Her day started at 5:15 AM. She left her home in Brentwood and went to Fox Studios for work. She went shopping in Beverly Hills, returning to the studio after. She then went shopping in Westwood, returning to the studio yet once more. She left the studio yet again and was driven to 601 Mountain Drive, the home of “Give” co-star Dean Martin. Marilyn had promised to take his 10-year old son, Dean Paul Martin, to the Angels game with her (see 6th photo). Marilyn then went to Dodger Stadium and she was driven home after (likely to change clothes). She left home and was driven to La Scala. After leaving the restaurant she was driven to Fox Studios, likely to return the costume, then home, then back to La Scala a second time, and then finally home. The invoice shows Marilyn was dropped off at her house in Brentwood at 12:30 AM the morning of June 2. Marilyn’s driver’s name was Rudy Kautzsky. He was one of the very few people invited to Marilyn’s funeral (circled at the funeral in last photo). #marilynmonroe
In celebration of Marilyn’s 97th birthday tomorr In celebration of Marilyn’s 97th birthday tomorrow, this is a card she received from half-sister Berniece Miracle for her 33rd birthday. This card is now part of my collection.

This colorful birthday card is adorned with multiple butterflies and signed on the inside in blue fountain pen ink “Love, Berniece & Paris.” Enclosed within the card is a small slip of paper penned in same ink reading “Dearest Marilyn, I’d love to fly up and visit you this summer during part of my vacation. Please phone or write me as to when you will be home, and the best time to come. Give my regards to Arthur. Love, Berniece.” Included is the original transmittal envelope addressed to “Mrs. Marilyn Miller, 444 E. 57th Street, New York City, N.Y.” and postmarked “Gainesville, FLA, Apr 24, 1959.
