On the left, the original costume Marilyn was to have worn when she performed “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. On the right, the last minute replacement, required as it was discovered that the stunning nude girl on red velvet in the 1951 calendar photos “New Wrinkle” and “Golden Dreams” was none other than Hollywood’s new “it girl,” Marilyn Monroe. Hollywood execs wanted a more demure and presentable costume, as compared to the sparkly, sexy burlesque themed costume. Both were designed by Travilla. Which do you prefer? #marilynmonroe
