I’m often asked about autographs and authenticit I’m often asked about autographs and authenticity. Here are four examples of genuine Marilyn Monroe signatures from my collection. And no, Marilyn wasn’t left-handed (swipe left). She was right-handed, in spite of what some people claim. 🖐🏻#marilynmonroe
The Demand for Marilyn August 5, 2022, marks the The Demand for Marilyn

August 5, 2022, marks the 60th anniversary of her passing. Today, we see that the demand for Marilyn related memorabilia continues to be strong. Simply put: Marilyn Sets Records.

1. The Happy Birthday Mr. President dress: This famous gown actually set TWO records. On 10/27/1999, the JFK dress sold at Christie’s for the astonishing sum of $1,267,500.00, making it the most expensive dress ever sold at auction. Previously, the record was held by a blue velvet gown Princess Diana wore, which sold at auction at @christiesinc in 1997 for $222,500.00. The JFK dress sold again at @juliens_auctions on 11/17/2016 for a simply mind blowing $4,810,000.00, setting a world record.

2. “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn” by Andy Warhol: Sold at Christie’s New York on 05/08/2022 for an astonishing $195,040,000.00. It’s now the most expensive 20th-century artwork ever sold at auction, shattering previous records of $179.4 million in 2015 for Pablo Picasso's Les Femmes d'Alger (Version O) and $110.5 million in 2017 for Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Untitled, 1982.

3. The “Subway Dress” from the Seven Year Itch: This costume sold at Profiles in History on 06/18/2011 $5,658,000.00, making it the most expensive film costume ever sold at auction. But was it actually THE dress from the film? Read my blog to find out. Link in bio.

4. Marilyn Monroe’s personal cocktail dress: While not a record setting sale, went for a huge sum. Originally selling at Christie’s in 1999, this garment sold then for $23,000.00. On 05/11/2011 the dress sold a second time at Julien’s Auctions, this time for a whopping $358,000.00! The original estimate was a mere $20,000-$30,000.00.

These are just four examples. Other high-priced items are her 1956 Thunderbird, which sold at Julien’s Auctions in 2018 for $490,000.00, and her home in Brentwood, which last sold for $7.25M in 2017. Marilyn paid $77,500 for the home in 1962.

There’s no question the desire and demand for Marilyn has been and continues to be sky high.

If YOU were in the position of being able to purchase ANYTHING Marilyn related no matter the price, what would it be?

Here we are well into week #2 following the Met Ga Here we are well into week #2 following the Met Gala on May 2 with the public, industry experts and insiders still commenting on the fact Marilyn Monroe’s historic “Happy Birthday Mr. President” gown, a cherished and symbolic representation of American culture for many, many reasons, was allowed to be worn on the red carpet.

ICOM Costume, ( @icomcostume ) the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Costume, recently said, “Although the dress belongs to a private collection, the heritage must be understood as belonging to humanity, regardless of which institution has custody of the property…” “…we strongly recommend all museums to avoid lending historic garments to be worn, as they are artifacts of the material culture of its time, and they must be kept preserved for future generations.”

And, in what I found to be a simply fascinating read, Columbia University associate professor of film and media studies Racquel Gates (@racquelgates ) wrote about what this all means from the perspective of race and cultural appropriation. From Gates’ article: “But her attempt to embody Monroe’s persona is a new threshold in Kardashian’s often-problematic efforts to play with her racial self-presentation.”

The Power of Marilyn Monroe I’ve been taking a The Power of Marilyn Monroe

I’ve been taking a look at my social media insights based on activity over the last several days, and I’m totally blown away by these numbers, which are higher than I’ve ever seen:

Facebook (photo #2)

1,480,784 people reached, an increase of 436%

540,568 post engagements, an increase of 360%

900,706 people reached and 227,386 engagements on just one post

Instagram (photo #3)

186% increase in reach

128% increase in engagement

To me this is all about the power of MARILYN. Let’s face it, if KK had donned a gown by any other star, the reaction and response wouldn’t have even been the same. I hope she’s looking down on all of this and has an awareness of her influence and undeniably solid position in pop, fashion and world culture.

KK got hair from THIS lock of hair we own (one of six) and the hair we did give her originally came from…ROBERT CHAMPION! And don’t worry folks, all of our hair is real and authentic…just like that box of ginger candy from Marilyn Monroe’s makeup kit with a 2010 expiration date.” Whatever Ripley’s, whatever. “THAT Robert Champion hair or THIS Robert Champion hair, it’s all fake. #marilynmomroe #hairgate
Now that news is starting to spread like wildfire Now that news is starting to spread like wildfire that the hair @ripleysbelieveitornot gifted to KK is fake, Ripley’s has updated their website to remove reference to Robert Champion.
