Official account for the Scott Fortner Marilyn Monroe Collection, the world’s largest private collection of Monroe’s personal property & archives.

Without a doubt, one of the most interesting, uniq Without a doubt, one of the most interesting, unique, and poignant items in the collection: Marilyn Monroe’s personal maternity dress. She wore this dress during her final pregnancy in 1958, while filming Some Like It Hot. This dress sold originally at the 1999 Christie’s auction. Excerpts from “Marilyn Monroe” by Donald Spoto:

Page 405: Professionally idle, dependent on his wife’s income, humiliated by what he saw as her childish caprice and contemptuous of Hollywood in any case, Arthur could no longer tolerate her or the marriage. But there was another problem, and that autumn, the atmosphere on location in Coronado was thick with tensions. “Arthur told me he would allow Marilyn to work only in the morning,” (Billy) Wilder recalled. He said she was too exhausted to submit to outside work in the afternoon sun. “The morning? She never shows up until after twelve! Arthur, bring her to me at nine and you can have her back at eleven-thirty!” We were working with a time bomb, we were twenty days behind schedule and God knows how much over budget, and she was taking a lot of pills. But we were working with Monroe, and she was platinum – not just the hair, and not just her box-office appeal. What you saw on the screen was priceless. The reason for Arthur’s request was simple: In late October, the Millers learned that Marilyn was pregnant again. Fortunately, her most strenuous scenes were already shot and the filming of Some Like It Hot was completed on November 6. By this time, director and star were barely speaking.

Page 407: Returning to New York before the end of November, Marilyn was determined to rest during the early stages of her pregnancy. But on December 16, she miscarried; it was the last time she tried to be a mother. Both for sleep and as a tranquilizer, she had been taking Amytal, a brand name of the barbiturate amobarbital, and now she guiltily recalled Leon Krohn’s warning, as she wrote the Rostens: “Could I have killed it by taking all the Amytal on an empty stomach? I took some sherry wine also.” For weeks she was inconsolable, convinced that the drug abuse she now freely admitted had caused the spontaneous abortion.

White fox fur affixed to a white sweater, worn by White fox fur affixed to a white sweater, worn by Marilyn Monroe in the film The Misfits. This was Marilyn Monroe’s final completed film, released on February 1, 1961. This is an example of Marilyn wearing her personal clothing items in her films as the fur and sweater were part of her personal wardrobe. The white fox fur is part of the Marilyn Monroe Collection. It first sold at Christie’s in 1999. I added it to my collection in 2006. #marilynmonroe

When I asked her, “Has anyone ever accused you o When I asked her, “Has anyone ever accused you of wearing falsies?” she came through with a genuine Monroeism.

“Yes,” she told me, her eyes flashing indignantly. “Naturally,” she went on, “it was another actress who accused me. My answer to that is, quote: Those who know me better know better. That’s all. Unquote.”

Did you know every conspiracy about the death of M Did you know every conspiracy about the death of Marilyn Monroe can be traced to its origins? 🤔

Each year around the time of Marilyn’s death on August 4/5, the conspiracies resurface. These are stories the public appears to believe and without question, but where did they originate?  Are they even true?

Every conspiracy can be traced back to its origins, to include when it was first distributed and by whom. And no, they aren’t true. See details below. I go into further explanation in my most recent bog post.

1964: The First Mention of Murder – Frank Capell, Maurice Reece, Jack Clemmons in The Strange Death of Marilyn Monroe

1973: The First Mention of CIA Involvement in Marilyn Monroe’s Death and Ambulances at Marilyn’s Home in Marilyn: A Biography by Norman Mailer

1975: The First Mention of Marilyn Monroe’s Red Diary and a Press Conference in The Curious Death of Marilyn Monroe by Robert Slatzer

1975: The First Mention of the Washing Machine Theory and Marilyn’s Staged Bedroom, from Interviews with Sgt. Jack Clemmons disclosed in The Curious Death of Marilyn Monroe by Robert Slatzer. These are new claims that weren’t included in his initial 1962 police report.

1976: The First Mentions of Wiretapping and Mafia Involvement in Marilyn Monroe’s Death in Who Killed Marilyn Monroe by Anthony Scaduto

1982: The First Mention of Marilyn Monroe Dying by Lethal Injection in Marilyn Monroe Murder Cover Up by Milo Speriglio

1985: The First Mention of Marilyn’s Death by Lethal Enema in Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe by Anthony Summers

All of these conspiracies started years after Marilyn death, and they were all disproven in the 1982 investigation into the cause of her death.

Further, did you know that Marilyn had overdosed from drugs and medications prior to August of 1962?

Read more about the history of the murder conspiracies and about Marilyn’s prior overdoses on my blog. See link in bio and linked to this Reel.

For years, rumors have swirled about Marilyn and P For years, rumors have swirled about Marilyn and President John Kennedy having an affair. But when did they really meet for the first time? Stories range from as early as 1951, and/or other various times prior to Kennedy’s birthday gala on May 19, 1962. But as public figures, their activities are quite well documented. The only VERIFIED meetup between Marilyn and President Kennedy was a reception held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Krim after the birthday gala.

In this Reel, hear in Marilyn’s own words about meeting Kennedy at the reception. This audio is an excerpt from her final interview with Richard Meryman in late July, 1962, excerpts of which were published in Life magazine on August 3, 1962.

Marilyn talks about having met the “Attorney General” previously, and she shares that she was thrilled to introduce her former father-in-law Isidore Miller, her date to the gala, to the President. She acknowledges meeting Bobby prior, but not the President. Marilyn’s publicist Pat Newcomb was present during this interview, but she didn’t intervene, nor did she stop Marilyn from answering the question. If there had been some secretive affair happening, wouldn’t Newcomb have stepped in?

It’s most likely that this is the only time Marilyn met the President. At the end of this portion of the conversation with Meryman, Marilyn states, “It actually wasn’t much of a meeting.”

For years, the only known photo of Marilyn and the two Kennedys has been cropped, leading viewers to think the three were off having a private and secretive conversation in a corner of the Krim residence at the reception. However, the full photo, which is shown at the end of this Reel, clearly shows American historian, social critic Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. looking on and smiling, as if he was included in their conversation, and entertainer Harry Belafante can be seen in the background (over the President’s right shoulder). They’re clearly not having a secretive conversation between the three of them.

Based on this audio, was this the first time they met?

In your opinion? Is it okay to display a death pho In your opinion? Is it okay to display a death photo as part of an exhibit that’s presented as celebrating the life of an icon?

A new exhibit in Italy titled “Frida - Marylin. Parallel lives,” showcasing photos of Frida Kahlo and Marilyn Monroe, runs from July 12th to October 5th in the Ancient Oratory of San Filippo Neri in Turin.

The installation displays photos and artifacts representing the life of these two accomplished women. One social media post I saw read, “Over 100 shots and artworks to recount strength, fragility, complicated loves and constant self-searching.” It’s an interesting juxtaposition between Marilyn and Frida (which frankly I’m not sure I get).

This exhibit displays photos of Marilyn throughout her life, including a photo of her after she’d passed, taken at the morgue.

There are two known and confirmed death photos of Marilyn showing her face. In one of the photos, she actually appears very similar to how she was in life, and she’s easily recognizable as Marilyn. In the other photo, she’s unrecognizable as one of the world’s most famous film stars. Rather than choosing the photo that shows her as serene and peaceful, this exhibit displays the latter.

My personal thought is this: Does the exhibit also show a death photo of Frida Kahlo? I’ve not seen one in any of the social media posts I’ve viewed on this exhibit.

What are your thoughts? In your opinion, is it okay to display a death photo in an exhibit that is presented as celebrating the life of an icon?

Marilyn was laid to rest on August 8, 1962, 63 yea Marilyn was laid to rest on August 8, 1962, 63 years ago today. She is Interred at Westwood Village Memorial Park in Westwood, California. She wore a green Pucci dress. 💚

This is raw and somewhat rare footage shot the day of her funeral. Some segments seen here were used in news reels reporting on the event.

What’s poignant to me here is the movement of her coffin out of the chapel and it then being placed inside the crypt. There is also rarely seen (at least to me) footage of invited guests.

There is quite a bit of footage of Joe DiMaggio, and a touching scene at the end showing him and his son, Joe Jr., in front of Marilyn’s final resting place.
