The Houston Business Journal reports”Marilyn Monroe Spas will open its first Texas location in the Houston area this month, and it plans to bring several more to the city over the next few years. The first location, at 24 Waterway Ave. in The Woodlands, is expected to open in late May. Jeff and Loretta Sommers are the multi-unit owners/franchisees, and Marilyn Monroe Spas expects to open as many as eight to 10 Houston-area locations over the next three to five years.
The spa will offer hair services including cuts, color, up-dos, braids, blow outs, relaxers and extensions; facials such as the signature Marilyn Monroe Fassage technique, microcurrent, microdermabrasion and oxygen infusion; make-up services; various types of massages; body waxing for men and women; and manicures and pedicures. It also will sell Marilyn Monroe Spas-branded products, including makeup, hair care, organic skincare, and vegan and nontoxic nail polishes.
The Woodlands location will be a 2,600-square-foot large-format salon and spa. The company’s large-format locations range from 2,200 square feet to 4,000 square feet and require a total investment of $321,000 to $640,000, while its smaller format spas range from 1,200 square feet to 1,600 square feet and require a total investment between $200,000 and $450,000.
Launched in late 2012, Orlando-based Marilyn Monroe Spas is led by hospitality industry veterans and former Walt Disney executives. The concept began as a resort spa, and it now has locations in New York, California, Florida and Hawaii.
Last year, the company landed a $20 million investment and announced it would launch a beauty institute.
Another spa, Houston-based Thrive Drip Spa, opened its first location in April at 1014 Wirt Road. That spa offers customized IV vitamin drips and boosters, in addition to laser treatments and Botox.
