Marilyn Monroe’s Personal Invoices from Arthur P. Jacobs, 1956

Records from Marilyn Monroe’s International Production Period

From the Personal Files of Marilyn Monroe: This original invoice dated December 7, 1956 from the Arthur P. Jacobs publicity firm documents professional publicity services performed during the promotion of The Sleeping Prince, (the original title of The Prince and the Showgirl), the film Monroe co produced and starred in with Laurence Olivier.

Preserved with the invoice are two supporting records from Mecca Film Laboratories detailing the duplication of a 16mm silent negative and the preparation of contact prints used in the production of a television trailer for the film.

Arthur P. Jacobs operated an independent public relations office representing major film personalities and productions during this period. He had established his firm in 1956 and worked with clients including Monroe as she transitioned into international production and greater professional autonomy.

Together, these documents provide clear administrative evidence of the publicity and technical processes used to promote one of the key projects of Monroe’s independent career.
