Letter to Marilyn Monroe from Publishing Executive Julian P. Muller
This original letter, dated July 6, 1959, was sent to Marilyn Monroe by Harcourt, Brace and Company at their New York offices. Addressed to Marilyn at her East 57th Street residence, the publisher informs her that Maurice Zolotow’s new book, Oh Careless Love, would be released on July 29, and that an advance copy was being sent to her at his request.
The copy of Oh Careless Love that Marilyn received is part of The Marilyn Monroe Collection today. Click here for details.

Signed by publisher Julian P. Muller on official Harcourt, Brace and Company letterhead, the correspondence documents Marilyn’s direct connection to Zolotow during her New York years, when she was studying at the Actors Studio and actively engaged in the city’s literary and artistic community.
Maurice Zolotow would later publish Marilyn Monroe in 1960, the only full length biography written and released during her lifetime. This letter represents an early point in their documented association and stands as an authentic record of Marilyn Monroe’s place within the cultural and publishing world of the period.
