Marilyn – A Hollywood Farewell
Marilyn: A Hollywood Farewell By Leigh Wiener
Among the rarest and most historically significant books in The Marilyn Monroe Collection is Marilyn: A Hollywood Farewell, created by renowned photographer Leigh Wiener.
This limited edition volume documents Marilyn Monroe’s funeral on August 8, 1962, through the lens of the man uniquely positioned to witness it. Wiener was one of only a handful of photographers granted access to the private service at Westwood Memorial Park. His photographs captured not the public spectacle, but the quiet and deeply personal farewell attended by Marilyn’s closest friends, colleagues, and family.
Only 500 copies of Marilyn: A Hollywood Farewell were ever printed, making it one of the most exclusive photographic publications devoted to Marilyn Monroe.
Of those 500 copies, 275 were intended to be personally signed by Leigh Wiener. Tragically, Wiener passed away before completing the full signing. According to his son, approximately 100 copies were actually signed, making authenticated signed examples extraordinarily rare.
This book stands as both a photographic record and a historical document, preserving the final chapter of Marilyn Monroe’s public life. Through Wiener’s lens, the myth disappears, and what remains is the farewell to Norma Jeane Mortenson, a woman mourned by those who knew her best.
Collector’s Note
Few photographers witnessed Marilyn Monroe’s final farewell with the intimacy Leigh Wiener did. His presence at her funeral was not simply professional, but historical. This book preserves that moment. It represents one of the rarest signed Marilyn Monroe related publications. It is not only a book, but a permanent record of the day the world said goodbye to Marilyn, and those closest to her said goodbye to Norma Jeane.
