“Happy Birthday Mr. President” Dress Owner Dies

The New York Times reported today that Mr. Martin Zweig,”an influential investor and television pundit who predicted the 1987 stock market crash,” has passed away. The connection to Marilyn Monroe? Mr. Zweig was a passionate collector, and was the current owner of the dress Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy on May 19, 1962. With the owner of this iconic dress passing away, we must wonder if we’ll see it return to the auction block. The dress sold in 1999 at Christie’s for nearly $1,300,000.00, and today still holds the record for the most expensive personal gown ever sold at auction.
