Marilyn Monroe Collection Artifacts: Marilyn Monroe’s Personal Casual Skirt with Matching Belt

A gray wool skirt from the personal wardrobe of Marilyn Monroe. A-line in cut with a matching belt, the interior label reads: “Matthews / Beverly Hills.” A signature wardrobe item from the 1950s, Marilyn often wore skirts in private and public settings, and even in her films. She’s seen here wearing this skirt. #marilynmonroe

We all know that Marilyn loved her champagne! 🍾

Part of the Marilyn Monroe Collection: Two receipts from the Liquor Department at Jurgensen’s Grocery Store dated January and February of 1960, both showing purchases for @piper_heidsieck champagne. In January, she bought 12 splits of champagne, and in February she bought 48 splits! The champagne was delivered to Marilyn at the Beverly Hills Hotel, which is where she was staying during filming of Let’s Make Love.

These two receipts were recently featured in a Piper-Heidsieck advertising campaign.

Champagne is actually one of my favorite spirits. How about you?🥂

Marilyn wore her white Ferragamo heels when she partied with three-time Pulitzer Prize winning writer Carl Sandburg in January of 1962. Today, Marilyn’s white heels are part of the Marilyn Monroe Collection. She owned over 40 pairs of Ferragamo shoes at the time of her death. These Ferragim heels were first offered at the 1999 @christiesinc auction, “The Personal@Property of Marilyn Monroe.”

For the launch of their new line of @marilynmonroe clothing, @shoepalace hosted the MMC and I displayed an array of items from Marilyn’s personal wardrobe and archives, along with some film seen pieces.

The very first pictured item in the collection: Ma

The very first pictured item in the collection: Marilyn Monroe’s personal copy of 3D Movie Magazine from 1953. Marilyn is seen holding what is very likely this actual magazine while attending the 1953 St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Charity Event at the Hollywood Bowl on July 10, 1953. Incredibly, she’s wearing. The same dress to the event that she wears on the cover of the magazine! The magazine in my collection has a fold down the middle, like the one Marilyn holds in photos and the top edges of the magazine I own are frayed, also like the one Marilyn holds. This magazine, along with several others, originally sold as part of a large lot of items at Christie’s in December of 1995. Ralph Roberts, Marilyn’s friend and masseur, auctioned several pieces Marilyn had given to him over the years, these magazines included. The magazines came up for auction again at Christie’s in 2004, which is where I purchased them. This was the item that really began my journey of finding items to add to my collection that are actually photographed with Marilyn. Today, it’s a never-ending hunt. #marilynmonroe

“In Her 👠!”

One weekend in New York last January provided me with over 40 “Marilyn Was Here” moments. I’ve been posting Reels showing me in Marilyn spots together with images or film clips of Marilyn in NYC for the last nine months. During my trip I visted her homes, various film and photoshoot sites, and locations where she was simply picutred on the street by photographers and members of The Monroe Six. All of these locations still exist today. Here is a list of some of the well known sites I visited where Marilyn was captured on film when she was in New York:

Thanks to one generous doorman, I was allowed access to Marilyn’s apartment at 444 East 57th Street. I got several photos inside. To my knowledge, there are no other photos from the inside of her apartment other than real estate listings from when the unit was available for sale.

In this post, I’ve combined all of my “In Her 👠“ moments into one long video. I’ve kept the original music I selected for each individual Reel from when I originally posted it.

I hope you enjoyed watching these moments as much as I enjoyed sharing them. Stay tuned for the next “In Her 👠“ series (location TBD).

Marilyn at Sutton Place

My trip to New York City last Janaury was all about seeking out and locating places where Marilyn had been. In this shot, I’m standing outside of Marilyn’s first New York apartment building located at 2 Sutton Place South. I’m leaning against that building but on East 57th Street side. Marilyn is was seen here, incognito, walking a dog that interestingly is not Hugo, the Basset Hound she and third husband Arthur Miller had when she lived here. She’s headed West with the East River behind her. Just feet away in the direction she’s walking is 444 East 57th, the second home she had in this section of New York. This photo was likely taken by a member of the Monroe Six, a group of six super fans who regularly photographed Marilyn. She came to know each of them by name.

This is my last “In Her 👠“ post from my Janaury trip. I’ll soon post one long video tha shows ALL of my New York locations in one Reel. Until then, you can see my prior “In Her Shoes” Reels on my Instagram or Facebook accounts.

Last night at the Emmys, @plasmanyc from season 16

Last night at the Emmys, @plasmanyc from season 16 of @rupaulsdragrace channeled Marilyn! She wore a replica of Marilyn’s “show stopping” gown from There’s No Business Like Show Business that was designed by Travilla.

We love it when Marilyn is honored this way! 🤍💙🤍

Fun Facts:

1. TNBLSB was one of two musicals released in 1954 with a song score by Irving Berlin. The other? White Christmas.

2. TNBLSB was nominated for three Oscars in 1955:
