White fox fur affixed to a white sweater, worn by Marilyn Monroe in the film The Misfits. This was Marilyn Monroe’s final completed film, released on February 1, 1961. This is an example of Marilyn wearing her personal clothing items in her films as the fur and sweater were part of her personal wardrobe. The white fox fur is part of the Marilyn Monroe Collection. It first sold at Christie’s in 1999. I added it to my collection in 2006. #marilynmonroe

Each year around the time of Marilyn’s death on August 4/5, the conspiracies resurface. These are stories the public appears to believe and without question, but where did they originate? Are they even true?

Every conspiracy can be traced back to its origins, to include when it was first distributed and by whom. And no, they aren’t true. See details below. I go into further explanation in my most recent bog post.

For years, rumors have swirled about Marilyn and P

For years, rumors have swirled about Marilyn and President John Kennedy having an affair. But when did they really meet for the first time? Stories range from as early as 1951, and/or other various times prior to Kennedy’s birthday gala on May 19, 1962. But as public figures, their activities are quite well documented. The only VERIFIED meetup between Marilyn and President Kennedy was a reception held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Krim after the birthday gala.

In this Reel, hear in Marilyn’s own words about meeting Kennedy at the reception. This audio is an excerpt from her final interview with Richard Meryman in late July, 1962, excerpts of which were published in Life magazine on August 3, 1962.

Marilyn talks about having met the “Attorney General” previously, and she shares that she was thrilled to introduce her former father-in-law Isidore Miller, her date to the gala, to the President. She acknowledges meeting Bobby prior, but not the President. Marilyn’s publicist Pat Newcomb was present during this interview, but she didn’t intervene, nor did she stop Marilyn from answering the question. If there had been some secretive affair happening, wouldn’t Newcomb have stepped in?

It’s most likely that this is the only time Marilyn met the President. At the end of this portion of the conversation with Meryman, Marilyn states, “It actually wasn’t much of a meeting.”

For years, the only known photo of Marilyn and the two Kennedys has been cropped, leading viewers to think the three were off having a private and secretive conversation in a corner of the Krim residence at the reception. However, the full photo, which is shown at the end of this Reel, clearly shows American historian, social critic Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. looking on and smiling, as if he was included in their conversation, and entertainer Harry Belafante can be seen in the background (over the President’s right shoulder). They’re clearly not having a secretive conversation between the three of them.

Based on this audio, was this the first time they met?

In your opinion? Is it okay to display a death photo as part of an exhibit that’s presented as celebrating the life of an icon?

A new exhibit in Italy titled “Frida - Marylin. Parallel lives,” showcasing photos of Frida Kahlo and Marilyn Monroe, runs from July 12th to October 5th in the Ancient Oratory of San Filippo Neri in Turin.

The installation displays photos and artifacts representing the life of these two accomplished women. One social media post I saw read, “Over 100 shots and artworks to recount strength, fragility, complicated loves and constant self-searching.” It’s an interesting juxtaposition between Marilyn and Frida (which frankly I’m not sure I get).

This exhibit displays photos of Marilyn throughout her life, including a photo of her after she’d passed, taken at the morgue.

There are two known and confirmed death photos of Marilyn showing her face. In one of the photos, she actually appears very similar to how she was in life, and she’s easily recognizable as Marilyn. In the other photo, she’s unrecognizable as one of the world’s most famous film stars. Rather than choosing the photo that shows her as serene and peaceful, this exhibit displays the latter.

My personal thought is this: Does the exhibit also show a death photo of Frida Kahlo? I’ve not seen one in any of the social media posts I’ve viewed on this exhibit.

Marilyn was laid to rest on August 8, 1962, 63 years ago today. She is Interred at Westwood Village Memorial Park in Westwood, California. She wore a green Pucci dress. 💚

This is raw and somewhat rare footage shot the day of her funeral. Some segments seen here were used in news reels reporting on the event.

What’s poignant to me here is the movement of her coffin out of the chapel and it then being placed inside the crypt. There is also rarely seen (at least to me) footage of invited guests.

There is quite a bit of footage of Joe DiMaggio, and a touching scene at the end showing him and his son, Joe Jr., in front of Marilyn’s final resting place.
